Video Backfires Help Curb Southern Boundary of California's County Fire0:50

Firefighters were successful in controlling the southern boundary of the County Fire, which officials said had grown to 82,700 acres and was 25-percent contained on July 4, after using several backfires to slow the advance overnight, CBS reported. This timelapse video, shared by Cal Fire, shows the County Fire on July 3. Firefighters conducted a firing operation and worked to build containment lines on that day, according to Cal Fire. Cal Fire announced that some evacuations had been lifted for parts of Yolo County because of the progress made overnight. At least 2,500 people had been evacuated by July 4, according to NBC Bay Area reports. Some areas had seen a thick layer of smoke and ash in the air, which NBC Bay Area reported has caused some Fourth of July fireworks shows to be cancelled. Credit: CalFire via Storyful
