Stephen Hill locked in at Freo for another two years

Veteran midfielder Stephen Hill has signed a two-year contract with Fremantle, tying him to the club until the end of 2021.

In what has been a tough season for Hill, who suffered back-to-back calf and quad injuries, the talented wingman played just three senior games, taking his career tally to 206 matches over 11 years.

Hill said he was confident he could emerge from his most difficult season and return to his best football.

"I've had a rough couple of seasons with injuries but I'm confident I can get them right and I'm excited to play some footy again," he said.

"At the moment, I'm just taking it easy being the end of the season. Over the off-season, I'll be doing my full running so I'll be right to go for a full pre-season."

Hill's recommitment to Fremantle has ended speculation about his future with the club and comes after a chaotic fortnight, where coach Ross Lyon and chief executive Steve Rosich had been sensationally sacked.

Dockers list manager Mark Micallef said he was confident that Hill's injury-plagued season was well behind him.

"Stephen is obviously a big part of the Fremantle Football Club and we're really happy to see him commit for two more seasons," Micallef said.

"His work ethic has been first class and we're confident he's over his injury concerns. Stephen is a very popular member of the group and we think his best football is ahead of him."

The future of Hill's brother and teammate Brad, however, is still unclear.

Brad Hill is expected to join St Kilda on a long-term deal as long as the Saints and Fremantle can negotiate a trade – a difficult situation for the Saints as the three-time premiership player has two years left on his contract at the Dockers.
